Ben and Jerry’s Vegan Ice Creams: Worth the switch?

Ben and Jerry’s released a new line of vegan ice cream just recently. Yes, you heard correctly, vegan ice cream! Ice cream made from just plant based ingredients, sounds exciting but does it taste as good as it promises?

As someone that just started on a diet and trying to eat clean, Ben and Jerry’s new line of vegan ice cream came out at just the right time. I love sweet treats, especially ice cream but they can be very unhealthy. However, I am skeptical of how good vegan ice cream will taste since it doesn’t have milk and cream that gives ice cream the creaminess and richness. Hence, I decided to be skeptical no more and try the Ben and Jerry’s vegan ice cream out!

What Makes The Ben and Jerry’s Vegan Ice Cream Flavours, Vegan?

In Ben and Jerry’s vegan ice cream line, you can find four flavours that are vegan-certified, and the four flavours are Caramel Almond Brittle, Chocolate Caramel Cluster, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Chocolate Fudge Brownie. These 4 flavours are existing and popular flavours among the crowd, just made more accessible to vegans!

Made with almond milk that is non-GMO certified and ensured that it does not include any animal products (eg. egg, milk or honey), the brand has been certified vegan for these products. Additionally, all ingredients are fairtrade certified as well, so you can be sure that you are having quality ingredients that are ethically sourced.

Does the Ben and Jerry’s Vegan Ice Cream Taste Good Enough To Switch?

Yes! We bought the Ben and Jerry’s Chocolate Caramel Cluster to try, and I was pleasantly surprised at how rich and tasty the ice cream is! I would say it tastes just as good as a normal ice cream, and honestly, you wouldn’t even be able to tell the difference. And best off all, as I’m not a big fan of almond milk, it was great that I couldn’t taste the almond milk at all.

However, if we base it off its nutritional value, we can’t say that it is all that healthier than a normal ice cream. While one would expect a vegan products to have fewer calories, it has more than a cookie dough ice cream from Ben and Jerry’s. However, it does have less sugar and more protein so depending on what nutrient is important to you, it may or may not be healthier for you. But, it’s really addictive (read: We couldn’t stop eating it) and you can just exercise your calories off!

We feel this vegan option is definitely a step in the right direction for Ben and Jerry’s. While nutritionally it might not be healthier, but at least this delicious sweet treat is made more accessible for everyone! If you’re lactose intolerant, this is a great option for you to try! It’ll be great to end off a vegan meal. You should definitely try the Ben and Jerry’s vegan ice cream out and let us know what you think!
