The colour palette for the Spring/Summer season is often synonymous with pastels and all things bright and cheery. This was no different for the runway shows which showcased the hottest trends for the season. An especially noticeable trend, however, was the integration of violet hues. And we’re not just referring to pastel shades of violet.
From lighter shades such as lilac and lavender, to mauve and even deeper plums and amethyst, violet seems to be the colour of choice by many designers for this time of the year. While Balenciaga and Roland Mouret opted for conventional pastel violet shades, the likes of Alberta Ferretti and Roberto Cavalli chose to go with lavender and periwinkle hues. Fully embracing this season’s It colour, Burberry and Missoni chose to dress their models from head to toe in contrasting shades of violet.
As seen from the different shades of violet on the fashion runways, the Spring/Summer season isn’t just limited to pastel and brights. If you wish to go dark, by all means do so! And if you’re stumped with what to wear, how about taking a page from Burberry or Missoni and dress in full violet outfits? After all, it’s certainly safe to say that violet is no longer a colour only fit for royalty.
