Guys, we’re not trying to scare you here, but apparently Google knows everything, including what you’d want to wear this spring. Our favorite search engine has complied a fashion trend report for 2015 based on search data from January 2012 to February 2015.
According to the report, consumers have been searching for tulle skirts, jogger pants, palazzo pants and midi skirts. On the other hand, items such as peplum dresses, skinny jeans and norm core fashion are experiencing a decline.
The report breaks down the search data into bite-sized, easy-to-understand categories. Key terms on the incline are separated into 3 categories: “sustained growth” for trends that have experienced steady growth over the past few years, “seasonal growth” for trends that come back strong during a particular season, and “rising stars” for trends that experience a sudden boom, but may be fleeting. Likewise, trends on the decline are labeled “sustained decline”, “seasonal decline” and “falling stars”.
Fans of normcore and skinny jeans may shed a few tears upon knowing that their beloved trend is on the way out, being taken over by tulle skirts, midi skirts and jogger pants. However, seeing as these pieces tend to be really comfortable, we’re really stoked about it!
Among the rising trends, we’re most interested in tulle skirts and emoji jogger pants. Apparently, consumers have been getting crafty by learning how to make their own tulle skirts, judging by the volume of searches for diy tutorials! Meanwhile, emoji jogger pants are still the’thing’ as they are the most commonly searched for style when it comes to joggers. Maybe it’s time to leave some things in the past?
That being said, it’s always best to treat these trend reports as a guide. The report does not take into account consumers who may be searching for something simply because they don’t know what it is, and searches don’t necessarily translate into purchases. At the end of the day, it is still best to wear whatever you are happy and confident in.
