Australian Andreja Pejic (born Andrej Pelic) is the first transgender model to tell her story in Vogue US.

The outpouring of support for Andreja has led to a lengthy gratitude of appreciation on the 23 years old’s social media accounts. The leading American magazine highlights Pejic’s story and also reveals the evolution of the ever-changing fashion industry. Gender ambiguity is not an issue, at least while Anna Wintour rules Vogue.

‘There are just more categories now. It’s good. We’re finally figuring out that gender and sexuality are more complicated’ said Pejic in the interview. Before her gender-confirmation surgery in early-2014, the Bosnia-Herzegovina born had been cast as an androgynous model in both men’s and women’s fashion brands. After her life-changing procedure, she continues to strut the runways as a fully transitioned woman in various runway Fall 2015 shows.

Aside from the 4-page Vogue features Andreja has also landed a major beauty campaign as she is the new face of Make Up For Ever. Hopefully, this isn’t just a passing fad (Bruce Jenner, anyone?), as this could be an opportunity to open doors and motivate the rest of the trans community. Unbounded by social conventions and limitations, fashion continues to inspire and reshape the world. This could possibly be the start of a documentary on the journey of Andrej(a).
